Ethereum's Tim Beiko on How Dencun Massively Scales Ethereum

DeFi Decoded 138 - Ethereum's Tim Beiko on How Dencun Massively Scales Ethereum

Discover what’s next on Ethereum’s scaling roadmap, from raising data throughput to the timeline for stateless Ethereum and full sharding efforts. Gain insight into the workings of the Ethereum Foundation team and more!

Join Alex Tapscott and Andrew Young as they decode the world of Web3 with special guest Tim Beiko, Protocol Support of the Ethereum Foundation. Listen in as they discuss a simple explanation of Ethereum’s Dencun upgrade, the sustainability of lower layer two transaction fees, whether there’s still a need for several different layer two chains, what’s next on Ethereum’s scaling roadmap, considerations on raising the data throughout on Ethereum, timeline on stateless Ethereum and full sharding efforts, the Ethereum Foundation team and how they operate, and more!

On Wednesday, March 13, the Dencun upgrade was successfully implemented on Ethereum, marking a significant milestone in the platform's evolution. This highly anticipated hard fork, following the Merge, aims to substantially reduce transaction fees on layer-2 networks while enhancing Ethereum's scalability. Notably, the Dencun upgrade introduced blobs, which allow for the attachment of large data chunks to regular transactions. Unlike call data, blobs store data off-chain and are inaccessible after three weeks, offering a more cost-effective solution for layer 2 rollups. Tim Beiko, coordinator of the core developers at the Ethereum Foundation, shared insights on the Dencun upgrade in his latest appearance, following his previous discussion with us regarding the Merge.

Tune in to the 138th DeFi Decoded episode to hear Alex, Andrew, and Tim discuss all things Ethereum and Web3. What was the Dencun upgrade in layman’s terms, and what does it mean for Ethereum? What’s next on Ethereum’s scaling roadmap? How big is the Ethereum Foundation team, and how do they operate?
