Is the Bitcoin Halving the Bull Market’s Next Catalyst?

In their first 12 official days of trading, the 11 SEC-approved Bitcoin ETFs amassed a net inflow of $1.02 billion; BlackRock and Fidelity hold a dominant early lead with inflows of $2.4 billion and $2.1 billion respectively, while Grayscale’s GBTC experienced a net outflow of $5.2 billion. Bitcoin is set to undergo its fourth-ever halving in its history in just less than three months, which cuts the reward in half that’s paid out to Bitcoin miners; this upcoming halving, the reward per block will decrease from 6.25 to 3.125 BTC. Interestingly, all three past Bitcoin halvings preceded extremely large bull market rallies. In 2012, Bitcoin was $13 when the halving occurred and hit a peak of $1,152 (89x) within the next year; in 2016, it was $664 and hit $17,760 (27x); in 2020, it was $9,734 and hit $67,549 (7x). Bitwise became the first Bitcoin ETF asset manager to publicly release their Bitcoin wallet address in an ode to on-chain transparency, allowing anyone to verify BITB’s holdings and flows directly on the blockchain in real-time.
